SkyeBase Secures Prestigious LUC, supported by EuroUSC-Benelux

Mosta, Malta & Beersel, Belgium — SkyeBase International Ltd., a leading robotics inspection company established in Belgium and having offices in Malta, is proud to announce that it has successfully obtained the Light UAS Operator Certificate (LUC) through the Civil Aviation Directorate of Transport Malta. This critical accreditation is granted to commercial drone operators within the European Union under regulations set by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), allowing them to operate with greater autonomy and flexibility.

The LUC represents the highest level of certification in the EU for drone operators working within the Specific Category, which can include operations that may carry moderate to high levels of risk, such as flights beyond the visual line of sight (BVLOS) or above populated areas. By achieving this certification, SkyeBase has proven that its internal procedures meet these high standards.

As one of the first robotic inspection companies to attain the LUC, SkyeBase can efficiently expand its operations and offer intelligent inspection services to clients across Europe, marking a significant milestone for the company. The LUC not only reduces operational barriers but also enhances safety by requiring certified operators to implement rigorous internal approval, risk assessment, and safety management procedures.

Advantages of a LUC can include:

  • Independence and Flexibility: LUC-certified operators have the ability to plan, approve, and execute flights internally, streamlining their operations and response times according to their granted privileges.

    • Enhanced Safety and Compliance: Certified operators must adhere to strict safety protocols, risk management systems, and operational standards.

    • Pan-European Operations: With the LUC, SkyeBase is now eligible to perform easier complex drone operations across the EU, facilitating safer and more efficient inspection services for a wide range of industries.

This is the third LUC issued by the Civil Aviation Directorate at Transport Malta, and the first for multirotor being used for robotic inspection operations. Dr Analiza Abdilla, who is responsible for managing UAS operations at Transport Malta, said “We are pleased to be issuing an Light UAS Operator’s Certificate to SkyeBase, who have demonstrated rigorous safety and operations processes in both their operations and management systems. We look forward to working closely with SkyeBase and further supporting the development of their operations within and beyond the Maltese islands.”

SkyeBase’s LUC certification signals a new era for drone-enabled inspections across industries, allowing the company to continue providing cutting-edge, reliable, and efficient solutions to its clients throughout Europe.

SkyeBase would like to thank all team members for achieving this new milestone, as well as EuroUSC-Benelux for their expert support and advice.
